Dark Moon Esbat - For Solitaries

I occasionally like to do a #Dark #Moon #Esbat, especially when I have been slacking on Full Moon Esbats (I have..#guilt). I mostly honor Hecate at this time, although I would love to hear about what Goddess you celebrate at the dark moon!
Here's the ritual I'll be performing, you're welcome to it. Adapt it to suit your needs, take only a piece, it's yours. ^_^

* #Ritual Bath- I have special homemade bath blends for purification. If your herb cupboard doesn't quiiiiite fall under the "well-stocked" category then a simple handful or two of sea salt in the bath will do. I recite affirmations while soaking in that bath. Imagine everything negative I can possibly conjure up, and imagine it dissolving into the bathwater.
Repeated affirmations of "I release this now" are key here. Get your entire body soak. Hair, everything. When I finally feel the build up, say a prayer along the lines of "May the great Powers of the Divine cleanse and heal me of what is left I cannot see". then dunk myself under the water, hold it for 9 seconds (3x3) and emerge proclaiming "I release all that binds me!" Soak longer if you so choose, but I consider the bath done at this point.

*Once out, air dry. Use blessing oil or similar oil (I use Sage essential oil) to annoint yourself. Dab your fingers:
"Blessed be my feet, that I may walk in sacred paths."
"Blessed be my knees that  I may kneel at the altar of the Ancient ones"
"Blessed be my second chakra that I may bring forth life, art, and joy."
"Blessed be my heart, that is formed in beauty, that I may love and receive love."
"Blessed be my lips that I may speak words of power in time to come"
"Blessed be my minds eye that I may see the unseen and receive messages of the Spirit"

*Dress in your ritual garb, which traditionally for me is a white flowy dress specifically for magickal workings but on the dark moon-though the clothes arent necessarily as sacred- I like to put together something black. I also have gobs of ritual jewelry.

You are ready to begin.

*Ground

*Cast the circle by which method works best for you. I start north, move doesil around the circle three times, each time repeating a verse:
“Round and round the circles casts, joining present, future and past. A sacred place, a world apart, where powers merge and magic starts.”

“Round and round the circles casts, joining present, future and past. This sacred space shall now be bound as we cast this circle round.”

“Round and Round the circles cast, joining present, future and past. Thrice is the circle cast this night and now begins our magical rite.”

Proceeding in a clockwise motion I go to the center of the circle and hold my athame to the sky and say "As Above" then point it down saying "So Below"

*Call the Elements I traditionally start in the North or West. We'll do North here.

"Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North, Element of Earth, I do summon, stir, and call you forth that you may bless and guard me in my Rites." Light the North candle and drawn the N Invoking pentagram "Hail and Welcome"

"Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, Element of Air, I do summon, stir, and call you forth that you may bless and guard me in my Rites." Light the East candle and drawn the E Invoking pentagram "Hail and Welcome"

"Guardians of the Watchtowers of the South, Element of Fire, I do summon, stir, and call you forth that you may bless and guard me in my Rites." Light the South candle and drawn the S Invoking pentagram "Hail and Welcome"

"Guardians of the Watchtowers of the West, Element of Water, I do summon, stir, and call you forth that you may bless and guard me in my Rites." Light the West candle and drawn the W Invoking pentagram "Hail and Welcome"

*Now it is time to go before your altar. You should have a black candle or silver candle if following along with me and calling on Hecate. 3 of them, if they are available. You may also want to dress your altar with lavender flowers, moonstones, and clear quartz.

*Light the candle(s) and recite:
"

O Hecate, Triple One, Moon Maiden, Mother and Crone beautiful, awesome and wise I call to you.
Beautiful Hecate in maiden form ever watchful of all worlds traveling to the heaven, earth, sea and down below, you who stands at the crossroads Queen of mysteries, Goddess of all, I look to you for strength in all endeavors.
I call to you!
Maternal Hecate in the mother form; lovely loving protector of pregnant women and guardian of the threshold of life we invoke you for healthy babies coming into this world, and healthy mothers giving life. Goddess of Transformation, you who holds the knife that cuts the cord from birth to life, and life to death, be with us.
I call to you!
Crone Hecate seer of all knowing, all secrets of life and death we invoke you to see deep into the past and beyond the future. Through you I may speak to the ancestors and to unborn generations, guide me.
I call to you!
O Hecate, weaver of lives, keeper of the hounds, guardian of the gate, acknowledge me, who, has of my own free will, chosen to listen to your voice. Help me spread Wisdom, Truth, Love and Light.
I call to you!
Bright and Blessed Hecate,
Come to you at this time of magic,
When life is at its peak and death has waned,
I make offerings to you and ask that you be with me now!
Glorious Hecate accept my offerings!"

*At this point, light/burn the incense in offering. Some good choices are myrrh, dandelion, or lavender. If you want to make your own blend for an offering to Hecate ahead of time, herbs and plants associated with her besides the former are Aspen, Cypress, Locust, Palm, Rowan, Willow, Yew, Feverfew, Monkshood, Anise, Belladonna, Bittersweet, Cardamom, Galangal Mandrake, and Moonwort.

*Read the Charge of the Dark Goddess-

I am the Darkness behind and beneath the shadows.
I am the absence of air that awaits at the bottom of every breath.
I am the Ending before Life begins again,
the Decay that fertilizes the Living.
I am the Bottomless Pit,
the never-ending struggle to reclaim that which is denied.
I am the Key that unlocks every Door.
I am the Glory of Discovery,
for I am that which is hidden, secluded and forbidden.
Come to me at the Dark Moon and see that which can not be seen,
face the terror that is yours alone.
Swim to me through the blackest oceans
to the center of your greatest fears--
the Dark God and I will keep you safe.
Scream to us in terror, and yours will be the Power to Forbear.
Think of me when you feel pleasure, and I will intensify it,
until the time when I may have the greatest pleasure
of meeting you at the Crossroads Between the Worlds.

*Move onto Divination. I don't like to do spells on a new moon, you may feel differently so by all means feel free, but at this point I do divination. Tarot, specifically. I have a Dark Moon Spread just for the occasion-

The Dark of the Moon spread is not intended for looking outward on a situation, or for readings with a specific question in mind. Instead, its purpose is to look inward, and give you insight into your own life. An example of what this spread gives you would be the answer to, "Where is my life at now?"

Layout of Cards:
1-------4
--2-7-5--
3-------6

1: Releasing. Things you should be letting go of in your life.
2: Retaining. Things you should be holding close to you.
3: Receiving. Things that are coming into your life.
4: Surroundings. How the world around you is affecting you.
5: Giving. What you should be giving to others.
6: Beginning. Something new that will begin soon.
7: Your lesson. What you should be learning at this point.

*Cakes and Ale - I set my food item on an offering plate on the altar, and pour wine into a mini wine glass thats the equivalent of just over a shot. I hold my right hand over the food and the wine one at a time and say each time
"I bless and consecrate this __food/wine__ in the name of the Crone. I humbly bring forth this offering in a time of grounding, and honor to the Dark Goddess."
*Between each blessing, I take a bite of food/sip of wine and say "To Hecate!" then return it to the altar.

*Now, this is optional but I like to give a final closing prayer.

O most gracious Goddess Hecate, I pray to Thee this night, Thy sacred night.
I honor Thee and acknowledge Thee, beautiful Hecate, protectress of Witches.
Be with me and guide me this night, most precious Hecate, as I honor Thee.
In perfect love and perfect trust, and by harming none, I pray of Thee.
Blessed be.

*Dismiss the Elements! Starting North going Widdershins this time-
"Guardians of the North, element of Earth, I thank you for you presence in my circle. Stay if you can, go if you must, hail and farewell." Draw N Dismissing Pentagram and snuff the N candle.

"Guardians of the West, element of Water, I thank you for you presence in my circle. Stay if you can, go if you must, hail and farewell." Draw W Dismissing Pentagram and snuff the W candle.

"Guardians of the South, element of Fire, I thank you for you presence in my circle. Stay if you can, go if you must, hail and farewell." Draw S Dismissing Pentagram and snuff the S candle.

"Guardians of the East, element of Air, I thank you for you presence in my circle. Stay if you can, go if you must, hail and farewell." Draw E Dismissing Pentagram and snuff the E candle. "

*Close the circle. Starting in the North, proceeding 3x around widdershins-

"Circle Round, now be Unbound as I make my way around.
I now Dissolve this Sacred Space and send all Powers back to place.

Circle Round, now be Unbound as I make my way around.
Stay if you can, Go if you must, with Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.

Circle Round, now be Unbound as I make my way around.
My Work is finished for the Night/Day and now I End my Magick Rite/Way."

Once the circle is closed, say the following salute:

"The circle is open, but unbroken."

*Ground. To restore balance, put more energy into the earth than you took out. it helps to channel the energy through a crystal when doing this- one your body is naturally in tune with is the most ideal.

Take the left over cakes and ale outside, and you are finished.

Blessed Be and enjoy the dark moon, for it is a time of new beginnings!
